Recondita Stirpe is a new band from Genova, Italy, whose debut release comes as a six-tracks EP released by Misty Circles, the historical Roman label that has contributed to discover some of the most interesting Italian artists of the last generations, such as Spiritual Front, Kannonau and Vri-il. Masterminds behind this four-members combo are Christoff and Diego Banchero, who has played with cult dark progressive names like Malombra and il Segno Del Comando, also active in Genova. Recondita Stirpe play what we could call neofolk the Italian way, with epic and romantic atmospheres born from a centuries-old music tradition, as well as the warm-blooded temperament of Mediterranean people. Probably, their most interesting feature is the musician's background, in particular Diego Banchero's, that brings a total different approach to the often scarcely inventive neofolk matter.

Opening "Fire On Us" is a wonderful introduction to the band's style: powerful ritual acoustic folk with keyboards that give a tasty touch of new wave to the formula. The most outstanding feature is certainly the vocals, with both lead singer Cristoff and the choruses doing an excellent work. Following "Devotion" is probably the best tune of the set, an epic and fascinating ballad where a Morriconian trumpet dominates the scene, while percussions and accordion enhance the very rich and personal sound. Again, vocal parts stand out with a stunning chorus that smells of magic formula.

The title-track is the band's manifesto, a disturbing ritual chant where Cristoff's voice whispers like an evil goblin while a haunting chorus repeats its diabolical spell. "Raskolnikov" feeds on melancholic French atmospheres, with the accordion dominating the scene, while ghostly vocals and an unsettling singsong pursue the listener. Final "Lord Of The Unknown" combines the elements seen up to know with an angry declaiming voice, and is probably the least fascinating of the five songs featured on the CD.

Recondita Stirpe take neofolk as a starting point, in particular the Death In June of "Nada!" or "Brown Book", but they incorporate a lot of other elements: traditional French songs, Ennio Morricone's soundtracks, popular Italian folk, dark wave. With this six-tracks EP, the band gives proof of considerable talent and taste, which should ensure them attention and recognition for their future releases. Another very promising debut for a possible new dark star of the Italian underground.

La Misty Circles ha messo sotto contratto il progetto musicale aperto di Experimental Electronic Muzak dal nome  "MALATO" .

I MALATO sono attualmente nel loro "Studio Ambulatoriale"  per registrare il loro singolo di esordio con la nuova formazione che vede suonare al suo interno per l'occasione membri dei NL4T, Sentinels, Ain Soph e Circus Joy.

POST CONTEMPORARY CORPORATION è un misterioso progetto dall'Italia, che sembra essere attivo già almeno dal 1998 (vedi la discografia su Discogs). I musicisti qui riuniti suonavano precedentemente in band quali VOTIVA LUX (rock psichedelico) e DISCIPLINATHA (punk), purtroppo non le conosco, ma una ricerca su internet lascia supporre che questi ultimi fossero piuttosto noti a Pizzalandia dalla metà degli anni '80 sino alla metà dei '90, dato che campionavano volentieri BENITO MUSSOLINI ed integravano elementi elettronici, quasi technoidi, nel loro grezzo punk sound.
Un'idea sulla natura del progetto la danno anche la label partecipante, che non è altro che una collaborazione a tre fra MUSICA DI UN CERTO LIVELLO, MISTY CIRCLES (AIN SOPH) e OLD EUROPA CAFE, e tuttavia non bisognerebbe fare l'errore di includere i PCC nella significativa definizione di "giro Ain Soph", ma forse scrivo ciò solo perché non saprei proprio come proseguire?... Fa lo stesso, mi atterrò ai fondamenti metodici ("I want to believe"), e solo così riuscirò ad affermare che in questa musica dimora qualcosa di davvero folle e genuinamente "anarchico".
POST CONTEMPORARY CORPORATION suonano una sorta di agitations-dance-rock psichedelico (ancora non esisteva nel mio vocabolario), anche se risulta evidente che questi musicisti siano impregnati di punk e "industrial culture" e non degli ordinari rocker. Per descrivere la follia che è qui lasciata a piede libero, ricorro alla seguente associazione di idee: prendete l' "effetto" causato dalla leggendaria fisarmonica del classico degli AIN SOPH "Aurora" (1992), ed unitelo con il pensiero alla più pura musica elettronica da "ora di aerobica" del più vicino studio di fitness, cercate poi di aggiungere un animatore italiano che blatera (non canta) senza pause e chiacchera alla maniera dell'agitatore con megafono di quelle che, almeno m'immagino, siano idiozie totalmente prive di senso, soltanto di rado interrotte da una specie di imitatore italiano di KLAUS NOMI. Oltre a tutto ciò, altre divertenti idee, come una chitarra elettrica spaziale in stile HAWKWIND, potenti accordi Punk-Metal con al di sotto un tipico sassofono da porno soft ed un rozzo tappeto di tastiere alla maniera di "Island" dei CURRENT 93 (non mi fraintendente, adoro "Island").
Le scarse informazioni che le label forniscono sul progetto tradiscono un'infatuazione per il futurismo, e d'altronde tutto il manifesto di FILIPPO TOMMASO MARINETTI viene sonorizzato, e chi ascolta la POST CONTEMPORARY CORPORATION la associa subito a parole come "movimento", "motivazione", "forza" e anche un po' di "violenza".
Interessante anche il possente titolo dell'album "Gerarchia Ordine Disciplina", che non va molto d'accordo con il "rosa frocio" della copertina e tanto meno con i piedi maschili in sandali rossi che si possono ammirare sulla homepage.
E che dire di "Madre De Dios (Matinente)"? - nel testo c'è dapprima lo spagnolo, ma anche della techno iper-iper-Ibiza style, e chitarre con feedback che non ci si aspetterebbe più di "Viva La Muerte" e "Viva L'Espagna". Unica anche la seguente "Onnagata", nella quale dapprima viene pronunciato un misto di italiano e giapponese ("Bonsai", "Sumo"), poi immancabilmente si crea una bombastica atmosfera giapponese cliché, che ricorda in qualche modo il poco riuscito pezzo degli OSTARA "Tatenokai", solo che allora (2002) gli OSTARA lo intendevano sul serio.
"Gerarchia Ordine Disciplina" è un album che diverte veramente, un "rebus" ideologico al quale concedo con tutto il cuore l'etichetta "avanguardia". Detto ciò, posso però anche comprendere se qualcuno prenderà la PCC per gli ultimi degli idioti, dato che già JOHN LENNON aveva rivelato un segreto ben celato: "Avanguardia è un'altra parola per Stronzata".
POST CONTEMPORARY CORPORATION è un progetto come solo in Italia ne possono nascere. Se vogliamo fare dei paragoni, penso tuttavia che la PCC possa piacere a tutti gli amanti di MONTE CAZAZZA/THE ATOM SMASHERS, tutti i fans di MONTY CANTSIN / LUTHER BLISSETT ovvero Neoisti, tutti i fans di AIN SOPH, MUSHROOM PATIENCE, NOVO HOMO, tutti i XX CENTURY ZORRO-freak, ogni esperto di pop art e, soprattutto, ogni estremista dovrebbe gioirne. Non devo tuttavia essere ritenuto colpevole se il CD dovesse farvi cagare, dato che simili album non sono da giudicare, perciò prima ascoltatelo per bene, grazie!
Il CD finisce, d'altra parte, con una specie di canto polifonico "buddista" che diventa molto minaccioso. La "canzone" s'intitola "Corporate America, Wake Up and Dance!".

Avantgarde Is Another Word For Bullshit


POST CONTEMPORARY CORPORATION ist ein mysteriöses Projekt aus Italien, welches anscheinend schon seit mindestens 1998 aktiv ist (siehe die Discogs Discographie). Die hier versammelten Musiker spielten früher in Bands wie VOTIVA LUX (Psychedelic Rock) oder DISCIPLINATHA (Punk), kenne ich leider beides nicht, aber eine Internetrecherche lässt vermuten, dass letztere Mitte der 80er bis Mitte der 90er recht berühmt und berüchtigt in Pizzaland waren, u.a. weil sie wohl gerne BENITO MUSSOLINI Samples/Reden verwandten und elektronische, fast schon technoide Elemente in den rohen Punksound integrierten.

Hinweise auf die Natur des Projekts liefern auch die beteiligten Labels, das Ganze ist nämlich nichts weniger als eine Dreifachzusammenarbeit zwischen den Labels MUSICA DI UN CERTO LIVELLO, MISTY CIRCLES (AIN SOPH) und OLD EUROPA CAFE, somit dürfte man auch bei PCC mit dem vielsagenden Hinweis "AIN SOPH Umfeld" nicht falsch liegen, aber vielleicht schreibe ich das auch nur, weil ich sonst nicht wüsste, wie ich weiter vorgehen soll?... Egal, schon aus methodischen Gründen bleibe ich jetzt dabei ("I want to believe"), denn nur so lässt sich wunderbar und vor allem glaubhaft festhalten, dass die Musik hier ziemlich irre ist und etwas wahrhaft "Anarchisches" in ihr wohnt.
POST CONTEMPORARY CORPORATION spielen eine Art psychedelischen Agitations-Dance-Rock (das gibt's nicht bisher, ist meine Wortschöpfung), bei dem aber auch sofort deutlich wird, dass die Musiker hier stark von Punk und "Industrial Culture" geprägt sind, denn so pfiffig sind gewöhnliche Rocker nicht. Um den Wahnsinn, der hier losgetreten wird, zu beschreiben, schlage ich folgende Assoziation vor: Man denke sich die "Haltung", die einst den legendären Schifferklavier AIN SOPH-Klassiker "Aurora" (1992) erzeugte, und verbindet dies gedanklich mit tyischer "Trimm-Dich Aerobicstunden"-Elektro-Musik des örtlichen Fitness Studios und versucht hier nun wiederum sich einen pausenlos drauflos labernden (nicht singenden) italienischen Animateur hinzuzudenken, der zu allem Überfluss auch noch weitestgehend, so vermute ich zumindest, recht sinnbefreiten Quatsch in megaphonartiger Agitationsmanier schwätzt, nur selten wird er von einem italienischen KLAUS NOMI-Imitator unterbrochen. Dazu dann noch so lustige Ideen, wie eine HAWKIND-artige spacige E-Gitarre, fette Punk-Metal Riffs, mitunter ein typisches Softporno-Saxophon und einen billigen Keyboardteppich wie einst auf CURRENT 93s "Island"-Album (nicht falsch verstehen, ich liebe "Island").
Die spärliche Information, die die beteiligten Label zum Projekt bereithalten, verraten uns noch eine starke Futurismus-Prägung, ja ganze FILIPPO TOMMASO MARINETTI-Manifeste sollen hier angeblich vertont worden sein, wer POST CONTEMPORARY CORPORATION hört, glaubt das sofort, denn schon assoziativ ist hier alles "Bewegung", "Motivation", "Kraft" und auch etwas "Gewalt".
Interessant auch der gestrenge Titel des Albums "Gerarchia Ordine Disciplina", das will nicht richtig zum "Schwuchtelpink" des Covers passen und schon gar nicht zu den männlichen Rote-Nagellack-Füßen, die auf der Homepage zu bestaunen sind.
Und was ist dann mit "Madre De Dios (Matinete)"? - auf dem der Text dann auf einmal Spanisch ist, aber auch zu Hyper-Hyper-Ibiza Ballermann-Techno und Feedback-Gitarren nicht viel mehr verkündet als "Viva La Muerte" und "Viva L'Espagna". Seltsam auch das darauffolgende "Onnagata", auf dem auf einmal ein Mischmasch aus japanisch ("Bonsai", "Sumo") und italienisch gesprochen wird, unweigerlich entsteht eine schwülstige Klischee-Japan-Atmosphäre, die etwas an das vollkommen missglückte OSTARA-Stück "Tatenokai" erinnert, nur meinten OSTARA das damals (2002) ernst.
"Gerarchia Ordine Discplina" ist ein Album was wirklich Spaß macht, einige ideologische "Rätsel" bereithält und dem ich das Label "Avantgarde" mit vollsten Herzen zugestehe. Darüberhinaus kann ich es aber auch vollauf verstehen, wenn jemand PCC für den letzten Blödsinn hält, denn schon JOHN LENNON verkündete einst ein gut behütetes Geheimnis: "Avantgarde is another word for Bullshit".
POST CONTEMPORARY CORPORATION ist ein Projekt, wie es nur in Italien entstehen kann. Mit Vergleichen muss ich passen, denke aber, dass PCC jeden MONTE CAZAZZA/THE ATOM SMASHERS-Liebhaber, jeden MONTY CANTSIN / LUTHER BLISSETT Fan bzw. Neoisten, jeden AIN SOPH, MUSHROOM PATIENCE, NOVO HOMO Fan, jeden XX CENTURY ZORRO-Freak, jeden Pop Art-Experten und überhaupt jeden Extremisten zufrieden stellen sollte. Ich will aber nicht schuld sein, sollte man die CD doch scheiße finden, denn zu bewerten sind solche Alben nicht, also vorher reinhören bitte!
Die CD endet übrigens mit einer Art "buddhistischem" Obertongesang, der sehr bedrohlich wirkt. Das "Lied" heißt "Corporate America, Wake Up and Dance!"
